One for the books: Presley & Partner’s newest partner reflects on his first year

Mike Bannerman, Partner, CPA, CA

Mike Bannerman may be the firm’s newest partner, but you’ll find he has a familiar face.

Mike joined the Presley & Partners team back in 2012, and he became partner in January 2018. A lifelong Valley resident, and accountant of 14 years, his areas of expertise include business development, corporate and personal income tax and assurance.

If he could choose one word to describe his first year being a partner, he says it would be: exciting.

“Without a doubt,” Mike says. “I love helping people, and this firm is all about that. Becoming a partner just means tonnes of new things to learn and new things to do. You’re suddenly involved in making the decisions that determine the direction and future of the firm – and that’s a lot of responsibility – but it’s very exciting stuff. My first year as partner is one for the books, for sure.”

Committed to the Comox Valley

Born and raised in the Valley, Mike’s family has lived here for three generations. He now lives in Courtenay, where he’s raising his own family.

Mike is also the chair of the marketing committee for the Financial & Estate Planning Institute (FEPI). Now in its second year, this panel of local Comox Valley professionals provides the community with literacy and education on financial and estate planning.

And as a diehard sports fan, stepdad to two teenage girls and devoted husband, you can safely say that Mike manages to stay busy. When he isn’t at his desk, you can find him on the green, shooting hoops on the court with his youngest daughter or cheering on his favorite teams: the Chicago Blackhawks, Green Bay Packers and Boston Red Sox.

Looking forward

When asked what he likes most about being a partner, without hesitation, he says it’s the people.

“Finances and tax are intimidating for so many,” he explains. “As accountants, we help alleviate that stress and give some peace of mind. Because, for me, it’s the people that are the best part of being a partner. From my fellow partners, to our team, to our clients – it’s those relationships that make it an excellent place to work.

“I have so much respect for what our team does on a daily basis and take pride in our commitment to this community. I’m looking forward to many great years here to come!”
