Transporting a Business Into the Future
JDW Trucking Ltd. operates as a division of Island Enterprises. The company supplies aggregate materials such as bark mulch and top soil and specializes in producing organic composting materials which are then distributed to landscapers, contractors and homeowners. During the off-season and winter months the equipment is put to work plowing snow for commercial contracts within the Comox Valley. The owner, John Watt, is committed to exceeding customer needs and to the timely transportation of products. Several years ago, John’s wife Sheila needed assistance with estate planning and transfer of properties from her parents’ estate, as well as assistance with ongoing management of the family business located in Dawson Creek.
Through a referral, Sheila was directed to Presley & Partners and the guidance and support the couple received during that difficult time gave them confidence in the firm. “They were a lifesaver; I don’t know how I would have gotten through it all without them,” says Sheila. Having had such a remarkable experience with their personal needs, they called upon Presley to provide services for John’s expanding business. As Island Enterprises continued to grow, Presley & Partners was brought on to provide full-service bookkeeping, tax and business advisory for the burgeoning company as well as for John and Sheila’s other businesses. Due to the complexities of running multiple businesses, the couple needed an accountant who understood the nuanced aspects of each venture. “That’s what set Presley apart from other accountants: they were able to streamline and bring all of our businesses under one umbrella and make things easier and more efficient,” says John.
In the nine years Presley & Partners has been working with John and Sheila the firm has handled a variety of business advisory and accounting needs, allowing the owners to concentrate on making their businesses successful. JDW Trucking has benefited from the ongoing advisory and support, with added ability to plan for long-term growth and position themselves most advantageously for future changes. John appreciates the expertise of Presley, but most of all he values their ability to help him interpret that part of his business: “The tax rules change so quickly, you have to work to stay up to speed. They do a great job of explaining in layman’s terms, because there’s so much to understand and they keep it simple. We are really happy with their work and the support they provide us and we would recommend them to anyone.”
